Praying About What the Heavens Declare

The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge. They have no speech, they use no words; no sound is heard from them. Yet their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world. Psalm 19:1-4

Here in the Twin Cities, we just had one of those sunrises that was wildly beautiful enough to put all the abstract impressionist painters to shame.  So many colors and shapes that you couldn’t imagine packing any more texture or motion into it — one of the most breath-taking I’ve ever seen.  Makes me wonder how many of thousands of beautiful sunrises and sunsets I’ve missed.  “The heavens declare the glory of God”, but we don’t fully know that if our nose is in a book,  or ‘to the grind stone’ or pointed at our feet.  Our Shepherd-King author David saw some pretty amazing celestial sights in all those years with outdoors with the sheep.  Almost everybody on Earth has a sky to look at and it can eloquently “pour forth speech” about the “glory of God” like no other medium.  We just need to look up and listen.

Lord, thank you for that flash of divine beauty out my window.  Something deep in you is speaking to what is deep in me.  I will look up and listen for you in the world around me today.  Amen.
