In my last blog post, Covenantal vs Missional Enrollment, Part 1, the rationale for a covenant-based enrollment approach was explored. In this post, reasons are explored for Christian day schools to consider using a missional approach to student enrollment. Follow-up questions at the end of the article may be helpful to promote meaningful discussion of this topic, as well as … Read More
Do You Believe in Your Timothy?
“So, you think you can TED?,” asked Toni. He was not asking if I would have something worthwhile to say on the TED (Technology, Entertainment, and Design) stage. He was asking for my feedback on his novel concept: a TED style meeting of “So You Think You Can Dance?” To be honest, I had my doubts. Did he have clarity … Read More
Effective Christian Leadership: Before You Can Do It, You Have to Know It
Before you can teach and lead others, you have to live it. But in order to live it, you first have to know it. I experienced this (or better put, failed at this) in my first experience as the senior leader in an organization. To be honest, as I walked in the door I was questioning my own preparedness, unsure … Read More
Praying with Thanksgiving
Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in … Read More
The Intermountain Christian Story: The Big Three
If this was the title of a Jeopardy slide, the answers could be numerous. General Motors, Ford, & Chrysler might have been your answer if you are into the world of automobiles. Or maybe Yale, Princeton, and Harvard would have been your response if you followed college football in the 1880s. If you grew up with myself and the rest … Read More
Navigating the Ed Policy Storms: Measure Success
It is not enough to do your best; you must know what to do, then do your best. – W. Edward Deming A few months ago, I proposed that each Christian school and Christian school leader must answer the following questions about their institution in order to navigate a way through these turbulent times in education policy: Why does your school … Read More

And add to that the work of leading and … Read More
Connecting Truth: Training a Movement of Teachers to Equip Students to Reflect Christ
In my previous post, focus was given to answering the questions, why do we make our students take bible classes and identifying the purpose of our bible departments. In this post, we will briefly examine and answer the remaining three questions and then identify best practices for schools that have defined and are measuring spiritual maturity in the context of equipping … Read More
Join the Parade of Nations
As I travel around the world, I see clear evidence that the epicenter of Christianity has been rapidly shifting. There has been explosive growth in the Christian faith in what is termed the Global South: Africa, Asia, and Latin America. This growth is now beginning to dwarf the bloc of Christians in Europe and North America. Philip Jenkins, in “The Next Christendom: The Coming of Global Christianity,” points out that if we extrapolate the data to the year 2025, which is not too far away, the predominance of Christianity will continue to grow in the Global South.
The Intermountain Christian Story: Covenantal or Missional?
One of the foundational questions that every Christian school needs to respond to is that of purpose – Why do we exist? The answer, for some Christian schools, has been deeply rooted in the concept of whether they are a covenantal Christian school or a missional Christian school. Intermountain Christian is asking this question as they re-story. For ICS, and … Read More
